New Construction Series, Episode 6: From Studs to Real Rooms
- Moisture-resistant board goes in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other damp spots.
- Cement board (or waterproofing system) goes behind tile in showers and tub surrounds since regular drywall doesn't belong there.
- Fire-rated board is typically required on the wall and ceiling between the garage and the house.
This is the stage where you can finally see your floor plan in real life: hallways, closets, window openings, and the true size of every room.
Next up: tape, mud, and texture
Hanging the boards is only half the job. Next the finishers will make all those seams disappear. They will then sand, texture, and then paint the walls!
The mud and texture need time to dry, so this next part will actually take longer than the hanging. Once it's done, the house is ready for primer and paint.
